Lucha Underground Releases Multiple Stars

Multiple Lucha Underground stars have been released from their contracts following multiple lawsuits were settled.

According to Lucha Central, El Hijo del Fantasma, Texano Jr, Fantasma, Ivelisse, Joey Ryan, and Kobra Moon have been granted released from the promotion.

El Hijo and Texano Jr. filed a lawsuit seeking financial damages, while a class action suit was filed by Fantasma, Ivelisse, Joey Ryan, and Kobra Moon.

The lawsuits were filed against Baba-G Productions and the El Rey Network allege the talent was being illegally restricted from “engaging in their lawful profession”

Documents obtained by Pro Wrestling Sheet stated that that Lucha Underground broadcasts between 22 and 40 television episodes per year, and if a wrestler appears on a show, the payment per episode is usually less than $1000.

Joey Ryan appeared in five Lucha Underground episodes in 2018, which would have provided approximately $5000 in revenue.

Lucha Underground contracts require talent not perform for any other wrestling companies without permission from the company.

The following statement was provided to Lucha Central from attorney Andre Verdun,

“I’m honored to say that we received 100% of the relief that we were suing to obtain and four young talented wrestlers are no longer bound by an unfair contract that prohibits them from taking full advantage of their talents at the prime of their career,”

Although no concrete information is known on future plans of the talent who have now been released, it’s expected Joey Ryan will sign with All Elite Wrestling, and Fantasma will be scouted by all major promotions including WWE.
