Botched Finish Leads To Fine

WWE referee Rod Zapata has reportedly been fined following the botched finish at Wrestlemania 35 this past Sunday.

According to Fightful, Becky Lynch was slated to win the “Winner Take All” match against Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair, but the finish was botched when the referee counted three, regardless of Rousey’s shoulder being up.

Following the match, referee Rod Zapata did receive some heat from people backstage. On Monday, during RAW, Vince McMahon pulled Zapata and fined him for what happened during the finish at Wrestlemania.

The pinfall was supposed to happen off the crucifix, but McMahon told Zapata that he should have waited until the shoulders were down to count the three, and if any of the performers in the ring ended up struggling to regain their footing, that would be on them.

Ronda Rousey was reportedly “not happy” following the match due to the botch finish. Rousey also suffered a broken hand during the match.
