Additional Details On WWE Making Major Shift In Executive Team
Earlier today, WWE announced Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman have been appointed new roles within the company.
Both were given the roles of Executive Directors, with Bischoff leading Smackdown Live, and Heyman leading RAW. According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, these roles had to be approved by WWE directors.
“Bischoff and Paul Heyman positions are new roles created within the WWE corporate hierarchy” Johnson stated. These are not worked roles, but legitimate executive roles that would have had to have been approved by the company’s Board of Directors, given their importance”. Johnson also added that Bischoff signed with the company two weeks ago.
Dave Meltzer provided some additional details on Wrestling Observer Live this afternoon. He stated that the roles start imminently. At this point in time it is not known if this will go in affect next Monday.
Speculation on why Bischoff was appointed on Smackdown was due to his experience in speaking to network executives. Meltzer added that FOX was not aware of this new move.
“I do know that the FOX people had no idea this was coming,” Meltzer stated. He added that they would have “wanted the other guy,” meaning that they would have wanted Heyman overseeing SmackDown instead.
A big question right now is what this means for the overall hierarchy in the company. If Triple H wasn’t appointed this position due to his plate being full with NXT, and if this will affect WWE’s current creative team.
