The COVID-19 pandemic has meant that WWE haven’t managed to hold shows in front of fans since April 2020, and it looks like WWE won’t be returning to its ticketed schedule until the second half of 2021 at the earliest.
During the Q4 earnings call, Kristina Salen, WWE’s Chief Financial Officer, mentioned that WWE doesn’t expect to return to a ticketed schedule until the second half of 2021. Salen noted that this is still uncertain due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This of course excludes WrestleMania 37, which will be held at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Florida with a limited crowd on April 10th and 11th.
WWE Network subscribers increased by 6% in the fourth quarter of 2020, at 1.5 million. $7 million was lost in operating income in 2020, due to the decline in ticket sales because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Live event revenue in 2020 was down 84% at $19.9 million. This was due to decline in ticket sales because of the COVID-19 pandemic. To put that into perspective, only 42 events with fans were held in 2020 compared to the 310 events in 2019.
