Backstage Notes On Universal Championship Match At Wrestlemania 37
This past weekend WrestleMania 37 concluded with Roman Reigns defeating Daniel Bryan and Edge in night two’s epic main event to retain the Universal championship, a matchup that some fans are crediting as one of the best finales in Mania history.
According to Fightful Select, Reigns’ advocate, Paul Heyman, was instrumental in orchestrating the match layout, much like has in the past with Brock Lesnar matchups. The report notes that unlike many other Mania bouts the conclusion to this one had been decided relatively early.
Heyman wasn’t the only one who had creative input. The publication adds that Edge and Bryan lend a large number of ideas, with the entire finished product being considered a collaborative effort. The popular double-headbutt submission spot was an idea that Bryan pitched. Bryan wasn’t always a guarantee to be in the match as that decision was only solidified the week of Fastlane.
WWE Hall of Famer Michael Hayes was also a producer on the matchup. Backstage the main event bout was very well received, with Reigns receiving a great deal of praise for his performance.
