The sports entertainment juggernaut that is WWE had a stellar year in 2023 and the company has continued to go from strength to strength in the early stages of 2024. With us now firmly on the road to Wrestlemania and the Royal Rumble fast-approaching, anticipation is at fever pitch with a number of hot storylines set to reach their climax in the coming months. The staggering return of CM Punk back in November saw the ‘Best in the World’ immediately enter the conversation for the World Heavyweight Championship while rampant speculation persists on whether Cody Rhodes will finally finish his story. Rarely have WWE been so spoiled for choice heading into their most significant time of the year; there are so many dream matchups to be made and an abundance of creative routes to go down that have WWE fans counting the days from now until the curtain is raised in Philadelphia on April 6th. Here’s a look at some of the company’s biggest stars that promise to make Wrestlemania weekend a spectacle you won’t soon forget.
Randy Orton
‘The Apex Predator’ is now entering his 22nd year with the company and he looks better than ever. Coming off a potentially career-ending back injury, the 14-time World Champion made his customary impact returning at Survivor Series War Games as the fifth man in Cody Rhodes’ team taking on the Judgment Day. Since helping his former protege dispatch Monday Night RAW’s resident bad guys, the 43-year-old has set his sights on the man responsible for putting him on the shelf for 18 months. The ‘Viper’ is set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship alongside fellow Smackdown protagonists L.A. Knight, YEAH! and the ‘Phenomenal One’ AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble. Free bets can give you more for your money when you bet on who will win the Royal Rumble in 2024. Orton is no stranger to the spotlight though; the legendary superstar gained internet fame almost a decade ago with a series of viral clips involving his famous finishing maneuver, the RKO. Since then his main event profile and infamous antics have made him one of the most followed active wrestlers on the roster. He is sure to have a spot befitting of his star power at Wrestlemania.
Roman Reigns
There aren’t any superlatives left to describe Reigns’ remarkable run as WWE Universal Champion. ‘The Tribal Chief’ has been at the top of his game for over three years now, firmly establishing himself as the final boss of WWE and the company’s biggest asset. As of writing, his title reign stands at an astonishing 1,241 days putting him fourth on the all-time list of longest WWE Championship reigns. With Hulk Hogan sitting just over 200 days ahead of Reigns in third on that list, whether WWE decides that the head of the table can climb another rung on the ladder or whether we will crown a new champion in Philly is anyone’s guess. One thing not up for debate though is Reigns’ undeniable charisma throughout this now legendary run. His captivating presence makes sure crowds hang on every word, and have helped the 38-year-old become one of the most followed superstars in WWE history.
John Cena
The man you can’t see is a pop-culture icon and the face of the WWE for the modern era. Since bursting onto the scene in the early-2000s, Cena has ruled the roost in the wrestling world. Such is his star power that it wasn’t long before Hollywood came calling, and Cena answered. Undoubtedly a famous face before his blockbuster roles in the Transformers, Suicide Squad and Fast & Furious franchises, but those films have made him a household name everywhere. Unfortunately his wrestling days are numbered with Cena himself recently admitting he will likely hang up his boots in the next three years. There are still many who will forever live by the creed that ‘Cena Sucks’, but the 46-year-old endeared himself to many in his last full-time run and while an appearance from the ‘Doctor of Thuganomics’ is a rare thing these days, there is still plenty of time for one last hoorah before Super Cena walks off into the sunset.
Logan Paul
Never far away from controversy, this infamous social media sensation, unbelievably, has become one of the biggest players in the WWE in the last few years. Paul has become a regular feature on television and credit where due, the Ohio native has taken to the business like a duck to water. It’s hard to imagine WWE had any plans for him past a one-off guest appearance when he entered the fold back in 2021, but since then he has managed to put together several match of the night contenders and an incredible highlight reel of viral moments with a who’s who of wrestling’s past and present. He even earned a United States Championship win over legendary luchador Rey Mysterio. His incredible athleticism and natural charisma make him readymade for the big stage and given the right guidance and time to learn his craft, it is plain to see that the mould is there for one of the company’s biggest superstars. The expectation is for the ‘Maverick’ to hold onto the belt until at least Wrestlemania, but with his in-ring work improving day by day, his potential is seemingly limitless.
The Rock
It’s the Rock. Need I say more? Hollywood’s biggest star, multiple-time WWE Champion and new board of directors member for WWE. It’s obvious isn’t it? Of course he’s the most followed WWE superstar.
