GM Mode Not Included In AEW Console Game

During an interview with IGN, Omega spoke on the new AEW console game, which has yet to have a release date. He stated a lot of the specific details are still under discussion, but confirmed the console game will include multiplayer, and campaign modes.

Many fans have been awaiting an announcement of a General Manager mode, but it will not be included in the console game according to Omega. Omega stated, General Manager mode will remain unique to to AEW Elite GM mobile game, which will be available for Android and iOS. Omega did reveal there will be various “unusual modes” in the game.

“I can say right now that we’re not sure of how many wrestlers will be available upon release, but one thing I can say is that the number of wrestlers in the AEW is growing all the time, and the roster of wrestlers in the game will reflect that,” stated. “There will be a campaign, and various other unusual modes, and you will be able to edit your own wrestler, too.”

“I want to give the player a little more control over when he can reverse moves, instead of it being completely random,” Omega stated. “No Mercy and Virtual Pro Wrestling had a ‘counter’ button, but you never knew if you would counter or not, and there was no indication of if you could or if you would. It would just sometimes happen. So I’ve been thinking about if there is some sort of merit to giving the player more control over when you can counter, and would it be more fun that way. Or maybe we will create a counter system. None of this is final yet though.”

Kenny Omega recently hosted the 2.Show on the AEW Games YouTube channel where he revealed details on AEW’s upcoming video game. Omega was joined by Kip Sabian where they discussed multiple new features which will be included in the game on it’s release.

On online play and create a wrestler:

Omega confirmed that the AEW console game will ‘absolutely’ include both online play and create a wrestler, which are two big features fans wanted to see in the game. He also noted that they are working on cross play functionality, meaning people can still play against each other despite having different consoles.

On the style of the game:

Sabian first asked if the AEW console game will be arcade or simulation, in which Omega replied ‘Neither’, mentioning that he wants the game to feel like the player is actually in the ring against their opponent.

On when Omega expects the game to be released:

Sabian asked Omega on when he expects the game to be released. Omega made jokes about WWE 2K20, which encountered a large amounts of bugs and glitches, making the game mainly unplayable.

Whilst Omega couldn’t give an exact release date, he hoped that the game would be ready late 2021/2022, also mentioning that regular updates will be available via the AEW Games YouTube channel.

On Geta’s involvement in the game:

Omega was finally asked about how he got Hideyuki ‘Geta’ Iwashita involved in the game. Geta worked on WWF No Mercy, which is widely considered the best wrestling video game of all time. Omega responded mentioning how he visited the AKI studio whilst still being in Japan, noting that the majority of them loved working on wrestling games.
