Moxley Lawsuit Will Stay In Michigan

A Wayne County judge has denied AEW and Jon Moxley’s request to move a civil lawsuit to a Florida court. The case will stay in Michigan, where the incident at the centre of the dispute took place in 2023.

According to Brandon Thurston of POST Wrestling, former AEW production worker Christopher Dispensa sued AEW and Moxley in May 2025. Dispensa alleges that during a match, Moxley deviated from the plan and shoved him to the floor, leaving him with injuries that required cervical spine and shoulder surgery.

The incident took place on the May 10, 2023 episode of Dynamite at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. Moxley was facing Kenny Omega in a steel cage match. Dispensa’s lawsuit accuses Moxley of civil assault and battery, and includes allegations of negligence against AEW.

AEW and Moxley asked the court to dismiss the case, or put it on hold so it could be refiled in Florida. They pointed to Dispensa living in Florida, most of his treating physicians being located there, and AEW being headquartered in the state.

Judge Catherine Heise rejected that request in an order filed on October 5, following a hearing on September 17. She wrote that the incident, the likely fact witnesses, and the arena are all in Detroit, and the courthouse is within healthy walking distance of the arena. Medical witnesses in Florida can testify remotely, she wrote, and moving the case would leave an out of state court applying Michigan law to an injury that happened in Michigan.

A second settlement conference is scheduled for December 22. The first settlement conference was held in July.

The allegations have not been established in court. This ruling does not decide whether Moxley or AEW are liable. It only decides where the case will be heard.
