All Elite Wrestling hosting the return of Sting sent shockwaves throughout the wrestling landscape, with many wondering if the 61-year old wrestling legend will make an in-ring return.

According to Sports Illustrated, AEW has plans for string to return to the ring. While this is something that won’t happen often, All Elite Wrestling is looking to leverage his star power with the possibility of cinematic matches, tag team bouts, and “carefully designed spots that allow Sting to shine while also building those around him into even bigger stars.”

The report also spoke on how the deal between Sting and AEW was put together. AEW founder Tony Khan reportedly “worked tirelessly to make this signing a reality”. Sting was reportedly impressed with the financial terms of his multi-year deal, as well as the long-term planning Khan pitched for his arrival in the company.

Tony Khan made the deal with Sting in secret, then revealed the details to Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega, Matt and Nick Jackson, as well as small group of people within the company.

Dave Meltzer recently noted he didn’t believe Sting would take any bumps, and anything physical he does do would have to be done in a safe manner.

Sting is scheduled to appear on this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite, airing on Wednesday at 8 p.m ET on TNT
