AEW Revolution Media Call Recap: NXT Moving To Tuesdays, Signing Paul Wight, Second TNT Show

Below are the highlights from today’s AEW Revolution Media Call with Cody Rhodes:

⁃ Cody comments on the Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch at Revolution. He says that anything involving Kenny is unique and great. He’s only seen the barbed wire being wrapped and is not sure how the explosions will work, however he says the title is the most important part of the match.

⁃ Cody says that there wasn’t a long negotiation process with getting Paul Wight in AEW as he is extremely motivated to start with the locker room. He expects that Wight will wrestle a few matches.

⁃ He says that there wasn’t a lot of diversity in wrestling a while ago, and is happy that there is much more now. He says that he regularly scouts potential AEW talents.

⁃ Cody believes that AEW was ‘headed to the moon’ before the pandemic, but doesn’t want to whine as everyone was affected.

⁃ Cody says AEW won’t be the first ones to begin touring again, instead taking a careful approach in the safest way possible.

⁃ Cody praises Red Velvet. He says that Tony carefully monitors talent and makes sure they are in it for the long haul before signing them.

⁃ Cody compliments the Women’s Eliminator Tournament and reveals that he would like to see a trios tournament sometime down the line.

⁃ Cody believes that Sting is with AEW for the long haul.

⁃ Cody says that Shaq has trained for his match on Dynamite. He hopes that it will be the best celebrity match of all time.

⁃ Cody comments on NXT potentially moving to Tuesday nights. He says that AEW Dark will be the alternate to NXT now, but he expects something else will pop up on Wednesday Nights.

⁃ Cody comments further on the topic. He says that the locker rooms have good relationships with each other, with the management side of things usually causing issues.

⁃ Cody says that he expects more to come with the AEW-NWA partnership now Powerrr is coming back, and that it takes trust and time.

⁃ Cody says that AEW Dark: Elevation will focus on wrestler’s characters, with more one-on-one conversations.

⁃ Cody mentioned that he isn’t sure how much convincing it took to get Tully Blanchard back in the ring, however they have some surprises for him.

⁃ Cody said that he doesn’t want pay-per-view go-home shows to be pointless, instead being more news worthy every time.

⁃ Cody compliments Maki Itoh, who competed in the AEW Women’s Eliminator Tournament, and hopes to see more of her in the future. Cody credits Hikaru Shida, Emi Sakura, Michael Nakazawa, Kenny Omega and Tony Khan on organising the tournament.

⁃ Cody compliments Wardlow, calling him ‘money in the bank’ and a big future star.

⁃ Cody specifies that the third hour of TNT programming won’t be added to Dynamite, and that a name is already in place for the second weekly TV show.

⁃ Cody says that AEW have made some pretty huge moves with Turner Media, also going all in with some other projects.
