Chelsea Green Speaks On Cease & Desist Letter

Chelsea Green recently changed the name of her podcast due to a cease and desist letter she received from the owner of the “50 Shades Of Grey” franchise.

Last month, Green filed a trademark for the name “50 Shades Of Green” with The United States Patent and Trademark Office. The name was used briefly for a new podcast she launched.

Green changed the name of her podcast to “Green With Envy” following legal advice from her trademark attorney, Michael E. Dockins. She went into detail on the situation during the latest episode. (transcription Wrestlezone)

“This week was a doozy. On Tuesday, I received a surprising email from my lawyer, and the email read, ‘Chelsea, much to our surprise, we’ve received the attached cease and desist letter concerning your use of ‘50 Shades Of Green’ trademark for your podcast and merchandise. As you will note from this letter, the complaining party is the owner of 50 Shades Of Grey, the brand. My gut tells me you’re not going to win and they certainly have deep pockets to fight this.”

On 5/17, Chelsea Green abandoned the trademark for “50 Shades Of Green” with The United States Patent and Trademark Office.
