David Starr has left Germany-based promotion wXw.

Starr put his career on the line against Bobby Gunns this past weekend at the 16 Carat Gold Tournament event in Oberhausen, Germany.

According to Dave Meltzer in today’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio (subscription required), WWE pressured wXw to cut ties with David Starr.

“The details are still forthcoming. WWE made it such that, they could not work together anymore.” Meltzer stated. “It was pressure from WWE, they did not want David Starr in any company they can control David Starr not being in.”

Starr took to Twitter, and made a brief statement regarding his departure.

I won’t go into further details regarding wXw on this platform and idk when/if I will in any public setting.

Like I said, freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences and that this mutual decision was one that neither of us wanted to make.

I love wXw & always will.

David Starr has been a polarizing figure on the independent scene, and has been extremely vocal on different issues ,including unionization of wrestlers.

WWE was reportedly upset that Starr once stepped on the NXT UK Championship during a match with WALTER.

The exact reason behind WWE pressuring wXw to cut ties with Starr has yet to be revealed.
