Joseph Bonsignore, better known to fans as Joey Styles has filed a new trademark to secure his wrestling name.

On 2/25, Bonsignore filed a trademark for the name Joey Styles with The United States Patent and Trademark Office. The trademark was filed under entertainment services.

International Class 041: Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer.

First Use Anywhere: At least as early as 01/01/1992

Use Of Mark In Another Form: The mark was first used anywhere in a different form other than that sought to be registered at least as early as 11/06/2000, and in commerce at least as early as 01/01/1992.

Styles attached the following statement to the filing, indicating he previously owned multiple trademarks for the name, dating back to 2001. Last year, he says he received an email from the USPTO, indicating his registration was canceled.

This is my stage name. I have previously owned this trademark several times dating back to 2001 and the registration numbers were 3097791,4469440 as well as two previous times where no registration number is listed in TESS but the serial numbers are 76162244 and 78198098.

On September 16, 2020, I received this email after attempting to renew my trademark:

OFFICIAL USPTO NOTICE “[email protected]” [[email protected]] Sent: 9/16/20 9:31 pm To: “REDACTED”, “REDACTED”

TRADEMARK REGISTRATION CANCELLED U.S. Registration No. 4469440 Mark: JOEY STYLES Owner: Joseph C. Bonsignore

Issue Date: September 17, 2020 The U.S. trademark registration above is cancelled. Although you filed a timely Section 8 declaration of use and/or excusable nonuse, we issued an Office action notifying you that the declaration could not be accepted. We did not receive an acceptable response that satisfies the requirements of Section 8 of the Trademark Act. You may file a new application. In limited circumstances, you may file a Petition to the Director Under Trademark Rule 2.146 to request reinstatement of your registration. The petition must be filed within two months of the issue date of this notice. However, the petition will be granted only in extraordinary situations, such as failing to receive the Office action. The USPTO cannot advise you on which of the above option(s) to select. View this notice and other documents for this cancelled registration in the Trademark Status and Document Retrieval (TSDR) database. Direct questions about this notice to the Trademark Assistance Center at 1-800-786-9199 (select option 1) or [email protected].

The reason the previous trademark was canceled was due to Styles not providing the proper documentation requested. On 2/19/19, the USPTO sent him a request to provide proof he is using the name in commerce for each class of goods and services. He previously sent a headshot, but that was not accepted as proper documentation.

Joey Styles is best known for his time in ECW and WWE as a commentator. He was released from WWE in 2016, and began working the independent scene.

In 2016, he was fired by EVOLVE for making an offensive statement on-air.
