The fate of Wrestlemania 36 should be decided over the next 24 hours as City of Tampa officials meet Thursday to discuss potential options for future large scale events.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the City of Tampa Twitter account noted that the event is still scheduled

“At this time @WrestleMania is still planned to proceed on schedule. Please contact the @WWE with questions about cancellations. The City is currently monitoring the spread of coronavirus and will work with venues as needed.”

Two additional reports that surfaced Wednesday indicate an unfavorable status for the event, scheduled to take place on 4/5 from the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

Local reporter Jon Alba stated on Twitter, “I do believe we will hear an update on the status of #WrestleMania within 24 hours or so. And I would suspect things aren’t trending in a positive direction. #WWE.”

Additionally, insider wrestling account Wrestlevotes stated the current status is “not looking good now”.

“Guys, I want it to still happen too. Trust me. But it’s not looking good at the moment. I would think they look to reschedule rather than cancel but time will tell.”

Jane Castor, City of Tampa Mayor spoke with 102.5 “The Bone” Wednesday afternoon, indicating that they are still looking at the situation of all large scale events, including Wrestlemania 36.

An official meeting will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday afternoon to discuss if any events will be postponed or canceled.

Castor also stated that the WWE would be able to have their input in the decision, but the final call will be made by the City of Tampa.

Multiple concerts, festivals, and sporting events around the world have been canceled or postponed.

The World Health Organization has now officially labeled the coronavirus outbreak as a pandemic.
