Following his loss to Kota Ibushi in the main event of night two of Wrestle Kingdom 15, many are speculating what the future holds for Jay White.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling has removed Jay White from its roster page on NJPW1972.com, his profile now redirects to a ‘404 Not Found’ page.
For a short period of time, NJPW reinstated his profile with the following message. That page has since been removed.
An emotional Switchblade declared backstage that all his effort had been for nothing, and that he would be leaving NJPW after January 6 2021. Should he follow through on his declaration, the pro-wrestling world may lose a man who would otherwise join the all time greats.
A recent report from Super J-Cast notes there is doubt whether Jay White will extend his contract with NJPW , which is rumored to be ending at the end of January. The report stated WWE is “making a strong play” for him to join the promotion.
During this week’s AEW Dynamite Post-Show, Tony Schiavone was asked about the possibility of White signing with AEW.
Schiavone believes he’s “locked into” a deal in Japan, responding “I don’t think so. I think he’s pretty much locked into what he’s doing there [Japan]” (h/t to WrestlingInc. for the transcription)
There has been conflicting reports on Jay White’s current contract with NJPW. Dave Meltzer noted on recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, when AEW attempted to recruit White in late 2018, he told the promotion he signed a seven-year deal with NJPW. His official contract length has yet to be revealed.
