Report: Champion Was Originally Set To Retain At WrestleMania.

A Raw Champion was planned to retain their Championship at WrestleMania 37.

It’s no secret that WWE has been known to change plans on match finishes and storylines prior to shows taking place. Last weekend’s WrestleMania included at least two of these instances.

The first, as previously noted, was that a ‘surprise’ finish was pitched for The Fiend vs Randy Orton on night two which would have written him off of television for ‘a good period of time’. This obviously didn’t happen, with Orton going over and appearing on Raw the night after.

Fightful Select (subscription required) is now reporting that Riddle was originally planned to retain his United States Championship at WrestleMania, however was changed to enable the continuation of the feud.

It is to be noted that Sheamus didn’t appear on this week’s Raw despite being crowned champion at the show of shows, instead making an appearance on Raw Talk, which aired immediately after Raw. Riddle made an appearance on Raw, however lost to WWE Champion Bobby Lashley in a squash match. Sheamus appeared on
