Update On Rumored Lucha Underground Reboot

Reports emerged last week revealing that conversations had begun about reviving the former professional wrestling promotion, Lucha Underground. The show ran for four seasons (2014-2018) before eventually coming to an end due to budget issues.

It was noted that if the show was to go ahead, the company would have to find many new wrestlers for their roster, as many of the original roster are now signed to other companies.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider Elite (subscription required) is reporting that there is ‘no movement’ in the revival of Lucha Underground right now, noting that they haven’t even begun to sketch out ideas for the reboot.

During the latest episode of “The We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Name Show”, Johnson stated he spoke with those involved, and they deny any revival of the series.

“There is no movement, there is no Lucha Underground revival at the moment. I don’t know where that started, but the people that hold the rights to it, and were involved in the production have told me that MGM, who would be the ones involved, because they own the series has not done anything, in terms of reviving it, producing it, hiring talents, or even sketching out ideas”

Lucha Underground introduced fans to a whole new base of talent, including AEW’s Brian Cage, Rey Fenix, Penta El Zero M, Angelico, Jack Evans, and WWE’s Ricochet, Santos Escobar, and more.

Major League Wrestling has recently introduced their Azteca Underground concept which plays off of the style that Lucha Underground built, with former Lucha Underground champion Mil Muertes being the face of the faction.

All four seasons of the original Lucha Underground can be found on the Tubi app for free.
