Samoa Joe has been forced to vacate the NXT Championship.

Joe posted a video Sunday night announcing WWE medical has not cleared him to compete, resulting in him having to relinquish the title.

“Recently WWE medical informed me due to certain injuries, they would like to have me step away from the ring for a brief, yet still undetermined amount of time.”

“Effective immediately I relinquish the NXT Championship.”

Samoa Joe was released from WWE this past April due to budget cuts, but made a shocking return to NXT in June. Joe was initially put in an enforcer role for NXT General Manager William Regal.

During last month’s NXT Takeover event, Joe defeated Karrion Kross to become the first three-time NXT Champion.

It’s unknown if Joe is dealing with issues related to past concussions, which kept him out of the ring for quite sometime. As more details are known, an update will be provided.

WWE will debut “NXT 2.0” this Tuesday from the Capitol Wrestling Center in Orlando, FL.
