WWE Looking To Settle Trademark Dispute

WWE is currently negotiating a settlement over a trademark dispute with Stone Cold LLC, a company headed by NFL player Chris Jones.

The dispute stems from a soda line the Chris Jones released named “Stone Cold Jones” soda in conjunction with KC Soda. WWE believes this infringes on two trademarks they own, “Stone Cold Steve Austin”, and “Stone Cold”.

On 12/15, WWE filed a motion to suspend the trademark proceedings with The United States Patent and Trademark Office Trademark and Appeal Board according to documents obtained by HeelByNature.com.

The proceedings will be suspended for 30 days to allow WWE and Stone Cold LLC to negotiate a settlement.

The parties are actively engaged in negotiations for the settlement of this matter. World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. requests that this proceeding be suspended for 30 days to allow the parties to continue their settlement efforts.

On 9/14, WWE filed a complaint, opposing trademark “Stone Cold Jones” trademark filing, indicating the name “Stone Cold” is associated with WWE legend “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

Stone Cold LLC answered the complaint on 10/23, indicating the name is widely recognizably by NFL player Chris Jones in conjunction with the NFL and the Kansas City Chiefs. They feel there is no confusion with WWE’s trademark, and should be able to use the name.

Proceedings in the case will resume on 1/15 if no settlement has been reached.
