The big story coming off of last week was WWE cleaning house due to apparent budget cuts, which included the release of several WWE superstars. There were reports of several stars who were vocally unhappy ahead of being cut, some that even made their unhappiness known which did them no favors in the long run. Former NXT cruiserweight champion fits into this category.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter Kalisto “cut his own throat” months back after splitting with the Lucha House Party. The trio of luchadores was a brain child of Lince Dorado, who pitched the idea thinking it would work since it played up the Mexican stereotype, and would be a good way to sell merchandise. The idea worked, and the group was formed.

However, after months of being treated as prelim jokes Kalisto was fed up, even tweeting about how unhappy he was not being used in legitimate angles. He asked multiple times to be removed from the group, but was consistently told no. It wasn’t until Dorado asked creative if he and Gran Metalik could continue the group separately that Kalisto got the axe.

Kalisto’s main roster run has been less than stellar aside from a few big moments, including the ladder matchup with the New Day from a few years back and his brief feud with Braun Strowman. He was also an NXT tag team champion with Sin Cara, and was regularly featured on 205 Live during his brief title reign.
