Since joining the main roster, Ali’s rise on SmackDown was derailed following an eye injury earlier this year.
According to Fightful Select, Ali has made quite the impression with many backstage, including SmackDown Executive Director Eric Bischoff. Following his match with Elias during the King Of The Ring, Eric Bischoff and Vince McMahon reportedly walked up to Ali and congratulated him on his performance against Elias. One of them stated it was Elias’ best match.
The match also caught the attention of WWE television executive Kevin Dunn, who has been a fixture in the company for 20 years.
Eric Bischoff’s was hired as Executive Director of SmackDown this past June, spending much of the last few months getting accustom to the current WWE product.
