Baron Corbin is out indefinitely after suffering an injury from Cody Rhodes’ punt kick on SmackDown.

According to Fightful, Michael Cole provided the update on the October 23 episode of SmackDown, reporting from the WWE medical team. Corbin suffered a cervical muscle strain, an orbital bone contusion, and blurred vision.

The injury came from the October 16 episode of SmackDown. Corbin had an impromptu match against Rhodes, during which Randy Orton interfered. The show ended with Rhodes hitting Corbin with a punt kick.

Corbin is the current WWE United States Champion, so the injury leaves his title picture in limbo. WWE has not announced a return date, and it has not said what happens to the United States Championship while Corbin is out.

The timing matters for Rhodes as well. Rhodes and Orton are now set for a Last Man Standing match at Crown Jewel on November 7, and the Corbin punt kick was part of how that rivalry heated up. Orton said on October 23 that he was surprised Rhodes had punted Corbin, while bragging about being the one to break Rhodes earlier in his career.

What is confirmed is the injury and that Corbin is out indefinitely. What is not confirmed is a return date or any plan for the title.
