Released WWE Talent Not Able To Sign Ring Name At Autograph Signings

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has a new interesting report regarding former WWE talents, and a stipulation in their contract regarding post-WWE appearances and autograph signings.

The report states that while it is commonly known that released talents are no longer able to promote themselves with their WWE moniker (unless they own the rights) after their run with the company, they are also unable to sign their WWE name.

An example given is Braun Strowman. If Strowman were to make an appearance and a fan wanted an autograph he would not be able to sign Braun Strowman even after his 90-day non-compete clause was up.

An interesting note in WWE contracts regarding autograph signings is that talent no longer under contract is not only not allowed to do events or appearances using their WWE name, which is understandable, but they aren’t allowed to even sign using their name.

This falls in line with WWE owning all the intellectual property, including a superstar’s persona, as it falls under the WWE umbrella. The situation is similar to the third-party edict that was made for Twitch, OnlyFans, Cameo, and other platforms that talents were able to make profits off of in the past.
