Kurt Angle has turned down an offer to manage Matt Riddle, the newest member of the SmackDown brand.

In an interview with CBR, Angle revealed he would have loved to manage Riddle, but now is not the right time, resulting in him turning down the offer.

WWE has offered me a job to manage him [Riddle]. Unfortunately, I turned it down due to a few different reasons, but I would have loved to manage him. It just wasn’t the right time.

He didn’t specify his reasoning on why he turned down the job, but did state “you never know” when asked if they may cross paths in the future.

Kurt Angle participated as a special guest referee in Matt Riddle’s last NXT match, facing Timothy Thatcher inside a cage on last week’s edition of NXT on USA. He also introduced the SmackDown audience to Riddle during last week’s episode.

Angle was one of the many people affected by recent WWE cuts, with dozens of talent and office staff being released or furloughed this past April.

Matt Riddle is among multiple NXT wrestlers who are set to join either RAW or SmackDown in the coming month.
