Will Edge Return To The Ring In 2020?
Edge returning to the ring may not be wishful thinking based on internal talks within the company.
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Edge has signed a new deal with WWE, which reportedly has a “pretty nice upside”.
This news confirms a report from Dave Meltzer in October which stated Edge signed a new deal with the WWE following negotiations with other companies (presumably AEW).
According to chatter internally the belief is Edge is working towards making an in-ring return in the future.
Edge himself has denied rumors suggesting an in-ring return, but those behind the scenes believe a return is inventible.
Johnson speculated that Edge could be working towards a return at WWE Royal Rumble, but that has not been confirmed.
In October, Edge was in Pittsburgh for “WWE business”, which is also where WWE Wellness Policy head Dr. Joseph Maroon is headquartered.
“We’ve heard that Edge signed a new deal with WWE that has a pretty nice upside. We also reported a few months ago he was in Pittsburgh for WWE business and that’s where WWE Wellness Policy head Dr. Joseph Maroon is headquartered. My gut feeling is we’ll see Edge in the Royal Rumble as a surprise (as that seems like the perfect place to make a big splash with a return for Wrestlemania season) and possibly even see him do a few matches on major events. I will point out that Edge has denied on social media that he’s doing anything, but the talk has persisted internally that he’s on the way back to the ring and I do believe there is something to it. Edge surprised fans during SummerSlam in Toronto, delivering a spear to Elias during the Kickoff Show.
During an episode of Edge and Christian’s Pod of Awesomeness earlier this year, he made comments about stepping back in the ring one final time.
“To be perfectly honest, I think I could do a match tomorrow,” Edge stated.
“I did have a doctor tell me that he thinks they’ll be able to basically get my neck relatively healthy within 5 years,” Edge stated. “Then there is stem cells, which I am looking into”.
Edge retired from in-ring action in 2011 following being diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis. Doctors would not clear him to wrestle, for risk of neck-down paralysis.
