Rey Mysterio is expected to sign a new deal with WWE after months of negotiations. Mysterio has been working without a contract, and has received a strong offer from All Elite Wrestling.

During initial negotiations, Rey Mysterio requested a pay increase, which Vince McMahon denied, citing the current financial situation the company is in, despite the company forecasted to make record profits.

On July 16, Rey Mysterio met with WWE officials in Stamford, CT to discuss a new contract. He then worked the Extreme Rules pay-per-view, losing against Seth Rollins in an ‘Eye For An Eye’ Match. He was backstage the following night on RAW, not appearing on television due to his storyline eye injury.

Him and WWE were planning on meeting once again to finalize a deal. It appears both sides have agreed to a new deal, and all that is left is Rey putting pen to paper.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Rey Mysterio is staying with WWE, but cannot confirm he has actually signed the new deal.

All Elite Wrestling made a strong offer, which equaled WWE’s per-match offer, but the money wouldn’t equate due to amount of matches WWE plans to have Rey Mysterio compete in.

The deal is reportedly longer than his initial 18-month deal with the company, but not as long as typical contracts WWE tries to lock talent in, which is 5-years.

“I can’t confirm pen to paper, but Rey Mysterio is staying, as was always the betting line outcome of this, but it’s as close to official without confirmation of it being official, and obviously Dominik is a big part of that deal. AEW made an offer that equaled the WWE’s per-match offer, but the WWE offer was higher because it was for more dates. We don’t have a time frame past this new deal would be considerably longer than the previous (18 months) deal but not the five-years or longer deals that WWE has tried to get everyone on.”

It was also noted that Rey Mysterio did agree to wrestle for the 25th Anniversary of Northeast Wrestling if he didn’t sign a new deal with WWE. If he does sign a new deal with WWE, he will simply make an appearance. Details on the event have yet to be finalized, but it’s scheduled to take place at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Rey Mysterio signed a two-year deal with WWE in September 2018, with the option to give his leave after 18-months.
