Sheamus wants fans to know he is not retired. The WWE star is on a long vacation, but it is not the end of his wrestling career.
Sheamus made the point on a recent appearance on The Ringer Wrestling Show. When asked about his status, he joked that he might look like a retired wrestler after so much time away from WWE television, but he is not done. He is now taking a break, spending time with his family and keeping in shape, and he is confident his in ring return is on the way.
His latest comments follow months of speculation about his future. He has not wrestled since the Royal Rumble in January, after finishing up his stint as a ringside commentator for TNA. WWE has not announced a return date, and his contract situation remains unclear, but Sheamus’s own words make it clear he expects to compete again.
The idea of Sheamus walking away would come as a shock. He has been a WWE mainstay for over a decade, with four World Championship reigns and a Hall of Fame worthy body of work. He has also made a name for himself outside of WWE with his Celtic Warrior Workouts and his popular YouTube channel, which has been on the rise in recent years.
Sheamus will be 48 in January, but he believes he is still in his prime. He told The Ringer he is not one of the old timers who will hang on forever, but he is not ready to retire just yet either. He is happy with his current workload and is enjoying his time away from the ring, but he is not done with WWE.
What is confirmed is that Sheamus is on a break from WWE and has not retired. What is not confirmed is when he will return to the ring, or what his next role in WWE will be.
