WWE has held multiple meetings and creative discussions about the upcoming John Cena Classic event.
According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, WWE wants the event to look and feel fresh. Shawn Michaels and AJ Styles have both been mentioned as being consulted for the project, in separate reports on the future of WWE and NXT creative.
The report also notes that the Classic was originally pitched as a showcase and a milestone program for Club WWE. A source indicated that it will likely stream elsewhere as well, though no platform has been confirmed.
The event is still believed to be taking place in December, though no further details such as a date or location have been announced as of this writing.
Cena is scheduled to appear on the November 2 edition of Raw, where he has teased revealing more details on the event. He is also scheduled for the November 4 edition of NXT, which goes head to head with AEW Blood and Guts because The CW is covering the midterm elections on November 3.
The Cena Classic was first reported as a December event tied to Cena’s final run. The December 19 date was previously considered for the event, on the same night as AEW Worlds End, though WWE has not announced that date.
What is confirmed is the meetings and creative discussions reported by Fightful Select, and Cena’s scheduled appearances on November 2 and November 4. What is not confirmed is the date, location, format, or streaming home for the Cena Classic.
