WWE Announces SmackDown’s 20th Anniversary Show

WWE announced the 20th Anniversary of SmackDown event will take place on October 4, 2019.

The event will happen on the debut episode of SmackDown on FOX.

WWE released the following 

SmackDown’s 20th anniversary celebration is drawing near, and the WWE Universe found out how they can be a part of it on Monday morning. The 20th anniversary episode will mark the premiere of SmackDown LIVE on FOX at 8 p.m. ET and take place at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Friday, Oct. 4. Tickets will be available starting this Friday, Aug. 16, at 10 a.m. PT via the STAPLES Center box office, AXS.com or by calling 1-888-929-7849.

WWE Superstars past and present will be on hand at STAPLES Center to celebrate the occasion, including WWE Hall of Famers Kurt Angle, Lita, Mick Foley, Booker T, Hulk Hogan, Trish Stratus, Goldberg, Jerry “The King” Lawler, Mark Henry, Ric Flair and Sting.

“SmackDown has been delivering action-packed, family-friendly programming for two decades, and we look forward to entertaining generations to come as we begin this next chapter on FOX,” said Vince McMahon, WWE Chairman & CEO.

“Since we announced our five-year agreement last June, we have been eagerly counting down the days to the launch of SmackDown LIVE on FOX Sports,” said Eric Shanks, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Producer of FOX Sports. “We couldn’t be more excited and are pulling out all of the stops to commemorate SmackDown’s 20th anniversary celebration.”

Beginning with the 20th anniversary celebration on Friday, Oct. 4, SmackDown will air on FOX 52 weeks a year and captivate fans with a unique combination of edge-of-your-seat action, unpredictable drama and world-class athleticism.

On the air since 1999, SmackDown LIVE is the second-longest running weekly episodic cable television show in U.S. primetime history, only behind Monday Night Raw, and is currently among the most-watched regularly scheduled programs on primetime cable. SmackDown LIVE has aired more original episodes than some of the most popular television series of all time, including The Simpsons, Gunsmoke, Lassie and Monday Night Football.

In its 20-year history, SmackDown LIVE has also helped launch the careers of pop-culture icons, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, John Cena, Triple H, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and The Bella Twins

Ronda Rousey Nearly Severs Finger On Set Of TV Show (Graphic Photo)

Ronda Rousey’s middle finger was nearly severed during filming of the television show 9-1-1.

The former RAW Women’s Champion suffered injury to her ring and middle finger according to TMZ. Rousey reportedly slammed a door on her fingers while shooting a scene for the show in Mexico.

As seen in the photo below, Rousey’s middle finger was almost severed as result of the injury. Her middle finger was broken, and her ring finger suffered a fractured tip.

 

Rousey was rushed to hospital, where her middle finger was repaired with a bolt and screws. She went back to work the next day.

NXT on USA Network TV Taping Update, How To Watch Outside U.S.

WWE officially announced NXT’s move to USA Network this morning. The company sent out a press release, and posted the news on all digital platforms.

The company has re-scheduled television tapings originally set for 9/11 and 9/12, moving them to 9/18 and 9/25, the first two live episodes airing on USA Network.

NXT utilizes a different platform for ticketing its Full Sail University shows, and according to the ticket website, both events are sold out.  Those who have tickets for the 9/11 and 9/12 shows automatically have their tickets honoured for the 9/18 and 9/28 USA Network events.

WWE has yet to strike any agreements with cable providers outside the U.S for NXT.  The company will continue to air NXT on the WWE Network on a 24-hour tape delay. WWE Network will air episodes of weekly NXT television every Thursday at 8 pm ET. WWE Network subscribers will be sent notices regarding this change.

WWE Announces NXT Moving To USA Network

WWE officially announced NXT’s move to USA Network beginning September 18, 2019.

The company issued the following press release this morning.

NEW YORK & STAMFORD, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– WWE® (NYSE: WWE) and USA Network today announced an agreement in principle to air WWE’s weekly Wednesday night show, NXT, live on USA Network at 8/7c starting September 18.

Following NXT’s growth in popularity, the new two-hour weekly show will expand its reach on USANetwork, the leader in cable entertainment, while staying in its Wednesday night timeslot that it has held since 2015.

“The move to USA Network provides an opportunity to deepen our relationship with NBCUniversal and further build the NXT brand,” said Vince McMahon, WWE Chairman & CEO. “Over the long term our goal is to develop a following that can be monetized to the same level as our flagship programs, Raw® and SmackDown®.”
