New Trademark Filed For Former WWE Star

WWE has filed a new trademark for the name Dean Ambrose with The United States Patent and Trademark Office.

On 10/8, WWE filed a new application for the name, which was entered into the USPTO “trademark reporting and monitoring” database on 11/23.

The trademark was filed under the entertainment services classification, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler. The company is likely trademarking the name to continue to maintain ownership on the IP associated with the character.

WWE previously held trademark for a name, which was canceled this past August. The company was provided ample time to renew, but decided not to. This new application is separate from the old filing.

International Class 041: Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members, providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely, blogs, in the field of sports entertainment.

WWE may encounter issues receiving approval for the new name, in the past the USPTO has requested consent forms from the talent who portray the characters.

Jonathan Good, the wrestler who portrayed Dean Ambrose left WWE in 2019, and is currently signed with All Elite Wrestling under the name Jon Moxley.
