WWE has filed another trademark for Dominik Mysterio without his legendary last name.

On 10/13, WWE filed a trademark for the name “Dominick” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This trademark included the letter “c”, which is not the proper way to spell his name. The spelling was used during his storyline with Eddie Guerrero and his father Rey Mysterio as a child.

Speculation began that the company may be shortening his in-ring name, similar to what they have done with numerous other talent over the years.

On 10/14, WWE filed trademark for the name “Dominik”, using the proper spelling . Both trademarks were filed for entertainment services by a professional wrestler.

International Class 041: Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment

During an episode of Grillin’ JR podcast, Jim Ross explained Vince McMahon’s mindset to shortening names, indicating “it’s a showbiz thing”. Vince apparently believes it’s easier to remember one name.

While this doesn’t confirm his last name will be removed, it certainly leads to speculation that it may happen in the future.
