WWE’s plans to expand to Japan is currently on hold.

Due to the current health crisis, WWE is has either placed all expansion projects on hold or completely off according to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio.

“NXT Japan is dead in the water”, Meltzer stated when asked about the current status of WWE’s expansion in Japan.

Over the last few months, several Japanese promotions are concerned with the announcement of NXT Japan.

WWE was in negotiations with All Japan Pro Wrestling, which became a major story within Japanese wrestling circles.

WWE attempted to purchase Pro Wrestling NOAH, prior to their sale to Cyberagent Inc. The company also attempted to acquire STARDOM, prior to the sale to NJPW’s parent company Bushiroad.

WWE has a tour scheduled for Japan this July, which has yet to be canceled.
