Social media personality Logan Paul is definitely not for everyone. It cannot be denied, however, that the 28 year old is making the absolute most of his fame and his career, and despite some very unfortunate headlines created, he certainly not against pushing against his boundaries and forging new career paths.
The Westlake, Ohio born content creator, has already long moved into the world of acting, but there was also a debut single release and not least, the highly publicised boxing bouts with fellow creator and personality KSI.
Whilst many expected him to stick with boxing in some fashion, despite the variety of odds that can be found on betting markets, I doubt many of the major betting apps in New Jersey and other US states would have given decent options (to themselves) on him making the pivot to wrestling and the WWE. If there was a sportsbook out there offering long odds on that happening, very savvy punters could well have made a killing by talking a small punt.
And they would have been right to as he even made a few appearances in WWE back in 2021, which seemed to spark a new passion for him, and he then subsequently made his professional wrestling debut in April 2022 as The Miz’s tag team partner at WrestleMania 38.
With his debut being well received by fans, he was quickly signed (July 2022) to a full multi-event contract with the entertainment giant and has made multiple appearances since at events. His rise has surprised many, and whilst there were plenty who thought his original deal was simply a publicity gimmick, given his reception and the dedication shown to his new profession, he has now signed and agreed a fresh multi-year deal with the company.
There is good reason for that as well, he has already been tagged as the best ever ‘celebrity turned wrestler’ as he just seems so natural in the ring, and with his high flying moves, he has also shown himself more than adept at adjusting to the varying story lines he is required to play, and he is clearly loving his new life, recently telling ESPN.
“I feel incredibly blessed to have found something that I’m good at, at 28 years old. The fact that the organization believes I’m good enough to continue hopefully building this WWE legacy is mind-blowing.”
Building on the natural fit that Logan seems to have found in the sport, professional wrestler and coach, Zak Zodiac, is in agreement.
“There’s a lot of celebrities that come into professional wrestling that won’t put the graft in. But Logan Paul is certainly not that person. The last few shows when he’s jumping on to the announcement tables, that’s a big risk and this man is putting his body on the line.”
Fans will recognise Zodiac’s name from the 2019 film featuring The Rock (Dwayne Johnson), Fighting With My Family, wherein it was his sister actually made it the biggest stage and now fights under the name Saraya. He continued.
“Whenever I’m training anyone, we spend a lot of time on the foundations. The footprint of professional wrestling, which is things like your bumps, your footwork, your ring awareness and your ring skill, these are all the things that make you an all-round professional wrestler. If you look at some of the world’s greats like Shawn Michaels, Eddie Guerrero and people like that, their basics are what make them stand out. Logan Paul has shown that he’s got his credentials down. Yes, he can fly and he can win the crowd, but he’s also got his basics right and that’s exciting.”
It seems simply a matter of time before Paul gains himself a permanent contract with the WWE.
