Alexa Bliss and Natalya Could Match This Friday In Saudi Arabia
WWE is currently en-route to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for their Super ShowDown pay-per-view.
Earlier today, it was confirmed that Renee Young, Natalya, and Alexa Bliss were on board a charter flight headed to Jeddah. The crew flew out of San Antonio, with one stop in Germany.
According to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, the reason Natalya and Alexa Bliss were brought for the trip is the hope they can have a match at the Super ShowDown event.
“WWE officials have been going back and forth with the Saudi General Sports Authority for the past few months trying to get a women’s match approved.” Satin states “While WWE hasn’t received an official green light, we’re told the two female wrestlers were flown to Jeddah with the hopes that it will be given before the show on Friday.”
According to Wrestlevotes, WWE originally wanted Nia Jax vs. Natalya at the show, but that plan was nixed due to Nia’s injury.
Renee Young is expected to do commentary this Friday, which would be her second time calling matches in Saudi Arabia. Young was a part of the announce team at WWE Crown Jewel last fall.
In 2014, WWE hosted their first event in Saudi Arabia. The company signed a 10-year deal with the Saudi General Sports Authority in 2018 to host events in the country.
No female performers have been authorized to participate in matches due to limited rights for women in the country. If granted, this will be the first female wrestling match in Saudi Arabia.
In 2017, Sasha Banks and Alexa Bliss made history by competing in the first-ever women’s match in the UAE.
