Ever since Coronavirus caused countries to go into lockdown, WWE continued to tape episodes of Raw, SmackDown and NXT. This caused superstars such as Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn to stop appearing on WWE television as they wanted to protect themselves and their families.
WWE have also faced backlash for not allowing Performance Center audience members to wear masks during tapings, only permitting it very recently.
Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer provided a timeline on Renee Young’s recent positive COVID-19 test.
WWE announcer Renee Young hadn’t been tested this past week however earlier in the week she felt sick and had symptoms similar to COVID-19. She was aware that she had been in contact with an NXT woman who had tested positive for coronavirus and therefore she was tested at home along with Jon Moxley on 6/22.
The next night, Moxley got his test result back as negative, however Renee tested positive. She immediately contacted WWE and Moxley contacted AEW, saying that he had been with her for several days and despite testing negative, it wasn’t worth the risk to come into tapings and he didn’t want to leave his wife.
As of 6/25, neither Vince McMahon, Paul Levesque, Mark Carrano or Kevin Dunn had contacted Young to see how she was doing, however a lot of the talent did.
It was believed that she had got through the worst of the virus and that her cough had got better.
AEW’s medical team had told Jon Moxley to isolate himself and if he doesn’t show any COVID-19 symptoms, he should be ok for the Fyter Fest tapings on 7/2.
Moxley didn’t want to leave his wife or infect others at a hotel. Moxley and Renee are isolating in separate areas of their house and will be taking multiple tests over the coming days.
If he tests positive then his match with Brian Cage will be postponed, however if not they could tape the match as late as 7/8 and it would be good to go for Fyter Fest week two.
