Sonya Deville Opens Up About Coming Out

Sonya Deville recently spoke with Sky Sports, and had some advice for anyone who is having a hard time coming out. Sonya Deville spoke about her decision to tell Triple H she was gay while filming the 6th season of Tough Enough.

When asked if she was in a relationship, Sonya Deville reacted with telling the truth about being in a same-sex relationship. Deville stated “yeah, I have a girlfriend, but she is not my wife yet” Deville spoke about how nervous she was and how she just proclaimed to the world she was gay on national television. Deville stated “Oh my god, I just came out on national tv” which Triple H replied, “yeah you just did!”.

Deville did provide some advice to anyone struggling with coming out stating “”If you are scared to do it, my advice would be ‘do it’, because this was the best thing that ever happened. I’m not saying there’s not going to be trials and tribulations along the way, but in the end, the best life you can live is the life where you’re true to yourself.”

“My goal in talking about my sexuality publicly is just so that a scared little girl or little boy can see me do it and think, ‘wow, if she did it, then maybe it’s OK that I do it’.

“It’s to encourage people to be themselves. Equality for all is what we should all want, between race, religion, gender, sexuality… it doesn’t matter.”

“We’re all equal and we should treat each other as such.”

Sky Sports WWE presented Sonya with a pair of rainbow laces, which is a part of a campaign for LGBT+ inclusion. The campaign has Premier League, England Rugby and the ECB among national governing bodies and organisations supporting the campaign,
