Storyline Plans Nixed Due To Steve Cutler’s Release
Last week, Steve Cutler was released by WWE shortly after returning to television alongside Wesley Blake as “Knights Of The Lone Wolf” alongside Baron Corbin.
Following Cutler’s release, reports emerged stating that Cutler’s release was due to the fact he caught COVID-19 in early January, which stemmed from a New Year’s Eve party which which he attended along with his girlfriend and current Impact Knockouts Champion, Deonna Purrazzo.
Cutler contracting the virus reportedly nixed storyline plans, which caused two other WWE wrestlers being removed from television.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE had plans for Baron Corbin, Steve Cutler, and Wesley Blake to feud with Rey Mysterio, Dominik, and Buddy Murphy.
“Cutler, he had a spot. They [Knights of the Lone Wolf] vanished because he tested positive. That’s why they vanished. They were booked on the next show, and he came in and he tested positive. They took him and Wesley Blake, who was the unfortunate victim in all this. They were gone for a couple weeks, and they just decided we’re not going to go back to it.
It was going to be Rey Mysterio, Domnik, Mysterio and Buddy Murphy vs. Corbin, Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler. You take Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler out, there’s no spot for Murphy, unless you want to these matches 3 on 1 instead of 2 on 1”
Following his release, Fightful confirmed Steve Cutler is bound by a 90-day non-compete clause, he will be able to sign with another company in early May if he decides to.
