Tragic news in the wrestling world today.
Shannon Spruill, also known to fans and colleagues as Daffney Unger, has passed away at the age of 46. Spruill’s family issued a press release through the promotion SHIMMER Wrestling that reads, “We are very sad to have to announce the passing of Shannon Spruill aka Daffney Unger @screamqueendaff. We are posting this at the request of her family. Please respect their privacy at this trying time. I will miss you my logical sister from another mister.-Lexie Fyfe”

Spruill released a concerning video yesterday evening (September 1st) addressing some of her personal battles and demons, which caught the attention of many of her friends and colleagues, with many alerting the police. Authorities were dispatched at several addresses before her family was given her correct updated address that she had moved to recently.
One of Spruill’s many accomplishments in the wrestling industry was her work in WCW and being one of the only women to hold the WCW cruiserweight championship during her run that began in 1999. She also worked under the Daffney moniker for TNA, ROH, the NWA, and multiple indie federations throughout the wrestling landscape.
On behalf of all of us at Heel By Nature we’d like to wish our condolences to Spruill’s family and friends. Rest in peace.
