What Are the Top 5 WWE Events of All Time?
As wrestling is one of the most exhilarating and entertaining sports in existence, we’ve drilled down some of the best WWE events to get you started.
What is WWE?
Combining professional wrestling with reality television, “World Wrestling Entertainment” is a famous wrestling organization in the US. Now a global integrated media and entertainment company, WWE has also branched out into other industries – such as film, American football, video games, action figures, and many more business ventures.
However, WWE first kicked off in the 1950s, when its first wrestling show under the Capitol Wrestling Corporation (CWC) was produced. The CWC later joined the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), and famous New York promoter Toots Mondt soon got involved.
Where can I watch WWE?
If you can’t get hold of tickets to live fights, luckily for you, there are quite a few streaming channels/services compatible with many devices where you can keep up on the WWE action. Alongside watching events on TV, you can even watch clips and reruns on the official WWE website. If you’d like to add an extra layer of excitement to the WWE, why not place thrilling wagers at online sports betting sites?
Top 5 WWE Events
WrestleMania X-7
At the peak of the World Wrestling Federation, the main event of Rock vs. Austin was brewing for a long while and was the match fans were desperate to witness. With two wrestling legends against each other, viewers enjoyed an absolute treat in the form of a merciless battle.
Things got savage, and the match transformed into a nine-person gang match with Spike, Rhyno, and Lita; but that only added to the chaos and excitement. WrestleMania X-7 also introduced the first fight between the Undertaker and Triple H. Yet, remember that the only reason these two wrestled was that they had nothing better to do.
Inevitably, this resulted in outright mayhem and made for some awesome entertainment. Also, Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit put on a fantastic match, especially at the Royal Rumble in 2003. There were many other incredible fights, putting WrestleMania X-7 in the WWE lead.
SummerSlam 2002
There was no better way to introduce SummerSlam 2002 than an opening match between Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio. The battles that followed were fights of fans’ dreams, with Edge vs. Guerrero, Flair vs. Jericho, and RVD vs. Benoit.
After a solid tag team competition and a fight from Taker, viewers witness the in-ring return of Shawn Michaels. No one could have predicted a match like the one he fought against Triple H. Described as a “truly amazing moment”, Triple H added fuel to the fire when he struck HBK with the sledgehammer after the contest.
Of course, SummerSlam 2002 couldn’t have been subtly seen out – the passing of the torch between the Rock and Brock Lesnar closed the scene. Since the audience remained stubbornly on (bad guy) Lesnar’s side, The Rock played up to heckling of the crowd and gave as good as he got.
No Way out 2001
Without a doubt, the spotlight of this show shone blindingly upon the 45-minute, grim fight between Triple H and Stone Cold. Eventually, Trips took the lead – only thanks to falling into Austin.
Another show highlight was the showstopper of the evening, featuring the Rock stealing the WWE Championship from Kurt Angle. The two wrestlers easily keep the fans entertained throughout the contest, and that in itself lands this event within our Top 3. Other noteworthy matches included a brutally awesome four-way battle for the Intercontinental Title and an unexpectedly decent match from Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley.
Fully Loaded 2000
This insane show declared triple trouble in the form of three epic matches: The Undertaker vs. Kurt Angle, Triple H vs. Chris Jericho (in a “Last Man Standing” match), and The Rock vs. Chris Benoit. Taker vs. Angle was a bit of a fail, but the other two matches delivered in a colossal way. Jericho and Trips had the best Last Man Standing match to date. The focal point event of Rock vs. Benoit spoke for itself also!
WrestleMania XX
As a big show of the 80s, to get to the contests you actually wanted to see, you had to see through plenty of filler matches on the way. Early contest highlights included matches between Christian vs. Chris Jericho and Evolution vs. The Rock and Mick Foley. And let’s not forget The infamous Goldberg vs. Lesnar match that is likely rated as one of the worst WrestleMania matches recorded.
Finally, the best WrestleMania 3 x threat match kicked off, with Chris Benoit competing against Shawn Michaels and Triple H. To this day, the image of Eddie and Chris celebrating at the end of the show was an emotional moment.
