The professional wrestling industry is still feeling the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in Japan. Both New Japan Pro-Wrestling and STARDOM, which are owned by Bushiroad, have been hit hard financially and have had to navigate a tough road to recovery. As a result, both promotions have been under pressure to keep costs down, which has led to passing on some opportunities.
According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, one of those missed opportunities was Trinity Fatu, formerly known as Naomi in WWE. There was a chance for Fatu to join her former tag team partner Sasha Banks, now known as Mercedes Mone, in Japan. However, it appears that Bushiroad felt it would cost too much and ultimately passed on the deal.
Fatu has been out of action since she and Banks walked out of WWE over creative differences and were indefinitely suspended. Although she did make the trip to Wrestle Kingdom 17 in January to support her former partner’s NJPW debut and was backstage at Ring of Honor’s Supercard of Honor over WrestleMania weekend, she has yet to make a return as a free agent.
While it’s unclear whether Fatu will make a return to wrestling anytime soon, it’s clear that there are opportunities out there for her. Despite Bushiroad passing on the chance to bring her to Japan, she remains within reach of the wrestling business and could make a comeback if the right situation presents itself.
