Grayson Waller kept the NXT Championship at Halloween Havoc, and CM Punk is next in line.

Waller beat Tony D’Angelo in the main event of the October 31 show in Orlando, Florida. The match turned on a crowbar. D’Angelo had considered using it, the referee was bumped and could not count a pin for D’Angelo, and Waller then hit D’Angelo with the crowbar himself before finishing him with a rolling cutter.

Before Waller could celebrate, Danhausen interrupted. Danhausen, who hosted the show, introduced a video message from CM Punk. Punk told Waller to hold on to the belt tight, because he is coming on November 4. Punk said Waller calls NXT his house, but Punk is the landlord, and Wednesday the rent is due.

Waller won the title from D’Angelo in a four way match at Heatwave in August, also involving Cruz Montana and Zilla Fatu. This was his second title defense, after beating EK Prosper in late September. D’Angelo was chasing the title he lost at Heatwave.

Kelani Jordan also kept her championship on the show, beating Wren Sinclair to retain the NXT Women’s Championship. Jordan won the title from Kendal Grey at Heatwave, and her reign now stands at 63 days. Elsewhere on the show, Myles Borne beat Tavion Heights, Izzi Dame beat Zaria, Zilla Fatu beat Charlie Dempsey, and Shiloh Hill beat Naraku.

The November 4 episode of NXT is a loaded one. The show moves to Wednesday this week because of election coverage on The CW, putting it directly opposite AEW Dynamite: Blood and Guts. John Cena is advertised to appear, and Cody Rhodes will present the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic trophy to the tournament winners. UFC star Michael Chandler is also set for the show, where he will enforce the rules in a Lennox versus Montana Unsanctioned Match.

What is confirmed is Waller’s retention, Punk’s challenge, and the November 4 date. What is not confirmed is whether Punk’s title shot is the only big match added to Wednesday’s show, or if more will be announced before then.
