Sheamus Dealing With Concussion
One half of The Bar was absent this week from in-ring competition during Smackdown Live.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Sheamus is currently out of action with a concussion.
The incident took place the week prior during a 6 Man Tag which saw The Bar teaming with Drew McIntyre vs. The New Day. During the same match, Big E suffered a torn meniscus.
This isn’t the first time The Celtic Warrior suffered head trauma, back in 2010 and 2015 he was also sidelined due concussion. In order for Sheamus to return to action, he must undergo concussion related testing .
The following outlines WWE’s official concussion testing protocol.
An ImPACT test is a computerized neurocognitive assessment tool that measures the effects of a concussion through cognitive testing. All WWE Talent have been given a baseline ImPACT test.
If a WWE Talent show symptoms of a concussion or has suffered a concussion, then that WWE Talent will not be cleared to return to wrestling until he/she passes an ImPACT test and is clinically cleared by a certified physician.
ImPACT tests are typically administered within 24-48 hours from the time the talent’s symptoms have resolved. If the post-injury ImPACT results are not comparable with the talent’s baseline test, then that WWE Talent will not be cleared until he/she retakes the ImPACT test. Repeat ImPACT tests are usually administered 2-3 days after the first post-injury ImPACT test.
