Earlier this year, Lio Rush defeated Laredo Kid on MLW television to become the AAA Cruiserweight Champion, however his victory was never mentioned on television again.

Dave Meltzer noted in latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Lio Rush was never meant to win the title, and that a miscommunication about the finish of the match resulted in Rush picking up the belt.

The idea was that Rush was to go back to Mexico to eventually lose the title, however, the AAA taping dates didn’t coincide with Rush’s schedule.

They thought about just doing a phantom switch saying it happened in Mexico but when AAA’s digital team never announced the title switch to begin with, the decision was eventually made to just go with the idea in Mexico that it never happened.

Lio Rush mentioned on Twitter that he first found out about the title change after seeing Laredo Kid with the belt on television, with AEW also advertising Laredo Kid as the current champion.

AAA continues to promote Laredo Kid as the Cruiserweight Champion.
