Kenny Omega has earned a shot at the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 21.
According to Pro Wrestling Dot Net, Omega won a three way match at NJPW Power Struggle on November 3 in Hiroshima, Japan, beating Boltin Oleg and Yota Tsuji. The win gives Omega a title match for Tsuji’s IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 21 on January 4 at the Tokyo Dome.
The match was part of a Power Struggle card that featured more AEW participation than any recent NJPW event. Omega, an AEW star, was joined on the card by Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, Will Ospreay, Gabe Kidd and others.
Power Struggle was held at the Hiroshima Sun Plaza Hall and aired live on NJPW World. The Super Junior Tag League final was also on the card, along with a Global Championship defense by Kidd and a tag title match featuring Ospreay.
Omega’s win is notable because Tsuji is the current IWGP Heavyweight Champion, and a three way win over both Tsuji and Boltin Oleg puts Omega directly in line for the title. The result was reported as a 12 minute and 54 second match, with Omega getting the win to earn the championship opportunity.
Omega has a long history in NJPW, where he was a top star before joining AEW. A return to the Tokyo Dome for a Heavyweight Championship match is a major moment in that history, and it gives Wrestle Kingdom 21 another AEW name on its card.
Other Wrestle Kingdom matches set at Power Struggle include Jon Moxley against Shingo Takagi, and MJF against Ryohei Oiwa. Omega against Tsuji now joins that list as one of the headline bouts for January 4.
No stipulation has been announced for Omega against Tsuji yet. The match is set as a championship match, with Tsuji defending the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.
