Queen Aminata is the new TBS Champion.
Aminata beat Persephone in the main event of Fright Night Dynamite on October 28 in St. Louis, Missouri. The win gives Aminata her first championship in AEW.
Persephone came to the ring with Britt Baker, who interfered repeatedly during the match. Baker, dressed as Miss Trunchbull from Matilda for the Halloween special, pulled Persephone out of the ring to stop Aminata from capitalizing, and later struck Aminata with the TBS Championship belt while the referee was checking on Persephone at ringside.
Persephone followed the belt shot with a moonsault, but Aminata kicked out. Persephone then tried for a Razor’s Edge, and Aminata escaped, hit a headbutt, and finished the match with Off With Her Head for the pinfall win.
Members of the women’s locker room came to the ring to celebrate with Aminata as the show went off the air. Confetti fell as Aminata held up the championship to close Fright Night Dynamite.
Aminata earned the title shot by beating Maya World in a number one contender’s match the previous week. She had also challenged Persephone in a four way TBS Championship match at WrestleDream, where Persephone retained against Aminata, Dani Luna and Hyan.
Persephone’s reign ends after around two months. Aminata now heads into a busy stretch for AEW, with Blood and Guts on November 4 and Full Gear on November 14.
What is confirmed is the title change, the finish, and Baker’s interference during the match. What is not confirmed is who Aminata will defend the championship against first.
