5 Things We Learned From &#8216;The Revival Of The Revolt&#8217; Interview On Talk Is Jericho

Dax Harwood (Scott Dawson) and Cash Wheeler (Dash Wilder), formerly known as The Revival were the focus of the latest episode of "Talk Is Jericho" with Chris Jericho. The team, formerly known as The Revival, now known as The Revolt, gave their first interview following their WWE exit on April 10. They provided details on their dealings with Vince McMahon, wanting out of their WWE contract, new gimmicks they were pitched, and what's next for the duo. Thoughts On WWE's Recent Mass Release Cash Wheeler states that he feels bad for a lot of the talent who recently signed new long term deals with WWE. "I feel really bad for a lot the guys who had just signed new long-term deals and thought they were set for the 3-5 years. Now, in the midst of a pandemic, they're kinda scrambling to figure things out." Wheeler feels that everyone will find their place and be fine, but acknowledges how scary things are due to the uncertainty surrounding the current health crisis Cash says, "I feel really bad for a lot of the guys who had just re-signed long term deals and thought they were set for the 3-5 years. And now, in the midst of a pandemic, they're kinda scrambling to figure things out." He says that it's scary with the uncertainty revolving around the pandemic, but trusts that they're all so talented that they'll be fine. Continued on next page Details On Initially Asking For Release in 2019 In late 2018, the pair were discussing their next steps, and decided it was time to move on from the company. The pair asked for their release on January 14, 2019, following a win over Lucha House Party on Monday Night RAW. The decision was made due to the fact that the WWE tag-team division wasn't being taken seriously. Cash Wheeler mentioned how Braun Strowman "stream-rolled" the entire division, and won the tag titles with a 10-year old. "The tag-team division doesn't get respect, it doesn't get the time that we think a lot of these teams deserve, and we want to take chances on ourselves." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4Jt1xXNPu0 Following the match on RAW, while still in gear, the duo went straight to the talent relations office to ask for their release. When they left the office, the other talent knew what was going on. Details began spreading on the internet, and the team often got tagged in posts stating they were just complainers. "We were getting tagged a lot on Twitter that we were just complaining and being crybabies, but I dare you to ask any of our coworkers if they ever heard us complain. Last year, we were booked more than any other talent on the roster. If all we did was complain, they would have stopped booking us. We wanted to show Vince that tag team wrestling could be something." After their meeting to get released, the pair were told they would be allowed out of their contract, but clearly those plans changed, and they continued to work. Dusty Rhodes Was Influential In Them Being Paired Up "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes was a big believer in The Revival, and was behind pairing up the two in NXT. Cash explained, "I firmly believe that if it wasn't for Dusty Rhodes, we might not have ever stuck as a team". Others within the company weren't quite sold on the idea of Wheeler and Harwood pairing up, but Dusty insisted they should always be a team. "This is the direction I want to go. I want you guys to never leave each others' side. I want you guys to be a tag-team." Dusty Rhodes was behind assigning names to talent in NXT, and assigned Cash the name Dash Wilder, inspired by "Dashing" Cody Rhodes. Vince McMahon Proposes New Gimmicks Prior To WWE Release [caption id="attachment_17951" align="aligncenter" width="662"] Image Credit: Cassidy Haynes and Bodyslam.net[/caption] Following their WWE exit, leaked photos emerged showing the duo with a different look, Wheeler and Harwood claim that the photos were not leaked by one of the talent, but most likely from someone in creative. "For whatever reason, the boys are kayfabed more than anybody else in the company. I can tell you with 100% certainty, that the boys are not the ones leaking out most of the information. Those photo shad to have come from someone from creative who came up with that costume." The pair were insisting on having a meeting with Vince McMahon to air out grievances, but understood he was very busy. While practicing a match prior to SmackDown, they received a text from Mark Carano asking to go to Vince McMahon's office ASAP. When they arrived, Vince handed them a folder with the pictures of a character change, which showed the duo in wild outfits. According to Cash, they were on board with doing the gimmick, but explained once their contracts expire they would leave the company. They had no issues portraying these new characters, but wanted McMahon to know they were done afterwards. "Here's the deal, these are not good , but we will do this until our contracts expire. We will do whatever you want. We'll give it 100%, and we'll have fun with it. It'll be fun, and we'll do exactly what you have right here, but when our contracts expire, we are gone." The new gimmicks were presented on Friday, and the following Wednesday they were notified that they had been pulled from all future events. They believed McMahon wanted them to just sit out the rest of their contracts, rather than continue to work. While the costumes were outrageous, the proposed idea was for them to dress in a way to prove a point, showing that the tag team division did not get the respect they deserve. What's Next For The Revolt? The pair has yet to commit to any company, or have plans to sign any long-term deals. They just got out of a long term contract with a company, and feel signing something new may feel like "a rebound". They listed a number of promotions they want to work with in the future, including Ring Of Honor, All Elite Wrestling, and New Japan Pro-Wrestling. They also mentioned teams they want to work with, including The North, Guerillas of Destiny, FinJuice, The Briscoes, and The Young Bucks. Check out the full interview below.
