A new report has surfaced stating that top officials in All Elite Wrestling are concerned about the surge of COVID-19 cases, with potential contingency plans being put in place for upcoming events.
According to Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam.net, there is internal concern within AEW due to the delta variant of coronavirus continuing to spread around the United States.
Several cities have already had to reinforce a new mask mandate, including Las Vegas Nevada which will be the home of WWE SummerSlam 2021. AEW specifically is keeping an eye on cases potentially disrupting events in St. Louis, their big Dynamite in New York, and Chicago where ALL OUT is being held.
The report states that over the last week there has been discussion amongst AEW officials about what to do if there is another shutdown. It is said that the promotion would most likely be moving its operations back to Daily’s Place in Jacksonville if necessary.
It was noted that over the last week internal discussions have ramped up as AEW officials talk about what to do if there is a shutdown, up to and including a potential prolonged return to Daily’s Place in Jacksonville once again.
The situation has been described as “all hands on deck” but company President Tony Khan is the one who will make any final decision.
It was also noted that there is an “all hands on deck” type of situation right now, but ultimately Tony Khan “has to make a decision about what is right for the talent, staff, and [especially] the fans.”
As of this writing, plans will remain the same, but AEW is keeping a close eye on what local authorities are doing as they prepare for their major marquee events in the upcoming months.
