WWE has released Akam and Rezar, collectively known as AOP (Authors Of Pain).
The company issued a statement Friday afternoon.
WWE has come to terms on the release of Akam and Rezar (AOP). We wish them all the best in their future endeavors.
Akam signed a deal with WWE in 2014 after being scouted by WWE Hall Of Famer Gerald Brisco. He grew up in British Columbia, and has a amateur wrestling background, winning a Gold Medal in the 2009 Canada Summer Games, and a Silver Medal in the 2011 Pan-Am Games.
Rezar signed a deal with WWE in 2015, following a WWE tryout in Dubai. He grew up in Amsterdam, and had a MMA background prior to starting his career in pro-wrestling.
The pair were teamed up in 2016, working under the NXT brand. During their time in NXT they captured the NXT Tag Team Championship, as well as the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
They were brought up to the main roster in 2018, where they captured the RAW Tag Team Championship.
This past March, Rezar suffered a bicep injury, and a decision was made to take Akam off the road as well.
Last month, Paul Ellering, who managed the duo in NXT revealed WWE had plans to bring him back with the team prior to the pandemic.
