WWE’s next major pay-per-view is Royal Rumble on 1/26 in Houston, TX.
While no matches have yet to be confirmed for the event, Dave Meltzer noted current backstage plans in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
WWE is planning a men’s and women’s Royal Rumble match, both expected to go an hour each. These matches will take up the majority of time for the event, and will most likely decrease the amount of other matches on the card.
Baron Corbin vs. The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan will take place on Friday Night SmackDown on 12/27, with the winner facing ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt at Royal Rumble.
Current plans suggest Daniel Bryan will face ‘The Fiend’ at Royal Rumble, in match that was originally scheduled for TLC. WWE decided to play that storyline out longer.
Asuka vs. Becky Lynch for the RAW Women’s Championship is penciled in, with it being the one year anniversary since Asuka defeated Lynch clean.
Two other possible matches include Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Braun Strowman for the Intercontinental Championship, and Lacey Evans vs. Bayley for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Both matches were originally planned for TLC.
Brock Lesnar’s next match will be at Royal Rumble, with no definite opponent known at this time. The match may or may not be for the WWE Championship. If Lesnar competes in the Royal Rumble it wouldn’t make much sense, since the WWE title shot is a prize for the Rumble winner.
