Road Dogg Leaves WWE Creative
WWE Hall Of Fame Brian “Road Dogg” James has stepped down as co-lead writer of Smackdown.
According to PWInsider, James left his position following increased frustration with changes made to Smackdown scripting by Vince McMahon. This past week’s Smackdown was reportedly the “breaking point” for James.
James worked alongside Stephan Guerieri as lead writers for Smackdown. Guerrieri would work from WWE headquarters in Stamford, CT, while James would travel on the road.
It’s unknown whether James will be transferred to another position within the company, or if he will be replaced. WWE sources indicate the way creative is current driven, the lead writer is now more of a formality. Everything is currently pitched though the creative team to Vince McMahon, who then approves, tweaks, or denies the segment.
McMahon is known for making changes late into the day, and sometimes while the programs are already running.
